I believe that the best job in the world is being a writer. A writer is only limited by his/hers own imagination (at least, at first…before editors and stuff). A writer can explore worlds that didn’t exist before that exploration. A writer can create life and death.
You took my answer. I would add that words can also change the world.
Yes, they can 🙂
The great thing about writing is that we can begin to express our own personality. We have all the freedom to say whatever we feel like saying. The best thing about this is, that we can even postiively contribute to the lives of others! 🙂
Yes, I totally agree with you! That level of freedom is rare in other jobs.
“It has been well said that an author who expects results … is in a position similar to that of a man who drops a rose petal down the Grand Canyon of Arizona and listens for the echo.”
/ P.G. Wodehouse, Cocktail Time/
That’s very true!
The second question should be: what Genre of writing is the best?
(Sci-Fi, Drama, Comedy etc.)
I honestly cannot answer to this. Each genre has it’s own purpose, it’s own creations, it’s own worlds and as long as all of them are serving people well, they’re all the best.
Anyone who is going to write a novel should read: Novel Notes by Jerome K. Jerome.
From the prologue:
From “Jephson” I hold a letter, dated from a station deep in the heart of the Queensland bush. “Do what you like with it, dear boy,” the letter runs, “so long as you keep me out of it. Thanks for your complimentary regrets, but I cannot share them. I was never fitted for a literary career. Lucky for me, I found it out in time. Some poor devils don’t. (I’m not getting at you, old man. We read all your stuff, and like it very much. Time hangs a bit heavy, you know, here, in the winter, and we are glad of almost anything.) This life suits me better. I love to feel my horse between my thighs, and the sun upon my skin. And there are the youngsters growing up about us, and the hands to look after, and the stock. I daresay it seems a very commonplace unintellectual life to you, but it satisfies my nature more than the writing of books could ever do. Besides, there are too many authors as it is. The world is so busy reading and writing, it has no time left for thinking. You’ll tell me, of course, that books are thought, but that is only the jargon of the Press. You come out here, old man, and sit as I do sometimes for days and nights together alone with the dumb cattle on an upheaved island of earth, as it were, jutting out into the deep sky, and you will know that they are not. What a man thinks—really thinks—goes down into him and grows in silence. What a man writes in books are the thoughts that he wishes to be thought to think.”
Poor Jephson! he promised so well at one time. But he always had strange notions.

Yes being a writer is the best job in the world. I agree 100 % with the first comment all the way. We can as writers create worlds that never were before and create weird things beyond comprehension in the real world. I love being a writer of my blog and my books published and the ones under development.
Yes! Being a writer is awesome!
Thanks for agreeing with me DM !!
So true. 🙂
I don’t really think that there is a “best job” since a lot of it can depend on where you are in the world. An actor for example is an amazing job in the US but in different places where the movie world is not as advanced and popular it would be a nightmare. You would hardly get hired and the jobs you could get could be bad as well. The same could go as a writer (unless you cater to a broader audience)
Of course, a “best job” differs from a person to another. That’s the idea behind this question.
I mean even to a certain person. One might love being a doctor for example but the conditions can be greatly different in different countries which would make said person lose the love he had for that job completely.
Thats a good point! Thanks for sharing! 🙂
If that person can transfer the love to another job, that would be awesome! 😀
The jobs that are all about helping others. Food pantries, shelters, etc. it’s such a heartwarming and humbling opportunity.
YES! Anything that has to do with positively impacting the lives of others, is the best thing one can do. 🙂
Thanks for sharing! 🙂
All jobs that can help others improve their lives are awesome jobs (others besides the boss).
The best job is one where you can turn your passion into an income.
I totally agree with you! It’s part of “the dream”, isn’t it?
Yes, it is!
Game tester. They pay you to play, find bugs and write gaming guides. I think they pay you quite well also. On the same line, game architect. And I don’t mean programmer. You design a game than others need to make real.
All humans have a natural drive to express their personality and unique self in whatever they are doing. Some have a greater needs than others. Some do it whilst practicing their hobbies, others have taken it so far that they made it their profession and earn a living from it.
In this respect, I believe anything that allows someone to express their personality and uniqueness in their job is the best job in the world. Examples are writers, musicians, actors, philosophers etc.
I don’t only say this because these may potentially be the most ‘enjoyable’ jobs, but also because the people doing these things are playing an infinite game. To play an infinite game, means that it can’t end. Simply said, these jobs will never go out of fashion, nor will they be ‘replaced’ by any upcoming AI or Tech trends. They will always be around because expressing your own personality in an authentic way, can never be replaced by anyone ever. 🙂
Great question! 🙂
Awesome answer! That’s the Simon Sinek part of you! 😀
Whatever job makes you genuinely happy. You could earn pennies, or have the most obscure job which everyone else sees as mundane. But if it gives you a kick and the satisfaction to make you genuinely happy then you can’t beat it. There is a ‘best job in the world’ out there for everyone and to each individual it would be different… I believe.
The fulfillment feeling is what makes that job great for someone!
Although some may not get paid a lot for what they do, I think the best job in the world is a TEACHER, because they have the ability to impart knowledge, wisdom, and understanding to others that can cause them to excel in or withdraw from life. The greatest thing about this job is that it comes in various forms, such as academic instructors, parents, leaders, coaches, motivators, etc.
And being a good teacher is very hard because it implies a great amount of work to make different people with different personalities to get interested in whatever that teacher has to say.
Yes, teaching can be real hard, as with other endeavors. Nevertheles, the harder it is, the more detemination we must have to reach our goal, and we can because the Great Teacher, the Great, Coach, and the Great Motivator, Jesus Christ will give us all the strength (spiritually, mentally, and pysically) that we need to make it happen.
Being a writer is a great job!
A writer or an artist. Anything creative where you can enjoy your work and inspire others with it
Yes, I agree with you. Art is great because the same piece of art can create different states in different people.
I’d say whatever it is that makes One’s heart sing. As Joseph Campbell said, “Follow Your Bliss!” Cool post. Cheers!!! 🙂
That is probably the best job in the world. The one that fulfills us at the end of the day. The one that gets us excited.
Best job in the world – Penguin Carer
I know there are more “important” jobs but if it was a job to just bring me pure joy and happiness it would be that. Reasons being, they’re stinking cute, they waddle, look like they’re wearing a Tuxedo and fall over a lot. Too much cute.
Yes, they are cute indeed.
Being a writer like you said (making your own work schedule is a huge bonus) and/or taking care of animals that were hurt by humans and protecting them and other animals from humans… (mostly cats in my case)
I agree with you! Taking care of animals can be a great job!
Mine… why, because I can…. 🙂
“It’s time for greatness — not for greed. It’s a time for idealism — not ideology. It is a time not just for compassionate words, but compassionate action. A lot of people are waiting for Martin Luther King or Mahatma Gandhi to come back — but they are gone. We are it. It is up to us. It is up to you. “ Marian Wright Edleman

Holy crap, that’s a big list! You do have some awesome jobs!
A freelance writer because you can live remotely, working from anywhere you want. Volunteering for a homestay or an ashram for food and board.
That is indeed the best job 🙂
Being a doctor – because you try to heal and save lives.
Helping others is awesome, especially when it involves saving their lives:)
I think my dream job would be Cat Psychologist :)) We have two cats, but none is too sane: the big one is antisocial and the little one is just crazy and with batteries ON all the time. 🙂
That can be an awesome job :))
