Turn Out The Lights

Remember the fireflies?

Where are they?

Remember starry nights?

Can you see them from your house?

Do you remember the moon?

Can you point to it without looking?

Have you admired it lately?

What is nighttime?

What is night a time for?

Turning the streetlights on, and backyard lamps?

Obliterating the dark?

Improving on nature’s daily cycle?

Is nighttime for going out and painting the town?

Isn’t it already painted anyway-with unnecessary artificial light?

What if night was….. dark again?

How would it be if we turned out all the lights?

Would we recognize our friend? Our night?

Would our bodies respond to the natural rhythms of earth and sky?

Would the planet grab us with a reminder that we are part of it?

Would the insects sing?

Would fireflies blink?

Could we see the mosaic of stars in the sky?

Might the moon make it’s impression?

Might our stress make a regression?

Might our souls be taught a lesson?

Maybe.

Hopefully.

Probably.

Let’s see.

Turn out the lights.

Thanks to fellow Wise & Shine writer AP2, whose recent, “question only” post must have seeped into my brain and subconsciously inspired my own question based piece.
