I Am Becoming

It’s a mantra I use often. As a complete thought on its own, it makes me feel like I am improving in every way.  It helps me focus and stay positive.

If I extend it a bit, it helps me to focus specifically on what I’m trying to do. It’s also a good way for me to take my own emotional and mental temperature; to see where my head is. If I find myself becoming something undesirable, I change the thought to something better and set my focus there.

I like becoming. Becoming is much more enjoyable than the next stage, which is maintaining. Maintaining is work just to stay where you are and not deteriorate. Becoming is better. Becoming mixes that work with adventure, progress, growth, learning, and excitement. No matter where I am, I strive to be- becoming.

We are all becoming.

But what are we becoming?

Here’s where I am today:

I am becoming more fit, healthy and well.

I am becoming a marathon runner.

I am becoming a better musician.

I am becoming a better writer.

I am becoming more comfortable with aging.

I am becoming more attuned to the needs of others.

I am becoming more self-aware.

I am becoming a better instrument for good in the world.

I am becoming a better parent.

I am becoming more self-knowledgeable.

I am becoming more knowledgeable about the world.

I am becoming better at prioritizing what’s important.

I am becoming…

I am becoming…

I am becoming…
